serenade to a bus seat
Serenade To A Bus Seat
Clark Terry - music
Les Harris, Jr - lyrics
Thanks for coming to our show, from all of us.
Pack up all the horns and drums, back on the bus.
We’re on the road, traveling through the night to the next town.
Tonight I’ll join the card game with the cats in the back.
And if I’m losing, then I’ll go back to my bus seat, and practice a bit more on my new axe.
We’re in the next town, I’ll change my clothes in my bus seat.
And play another gig, we’ve got a hell of a band.
We'll bring the house down, and then return to our bus seats and head to the next town and one night stand.
When I’m out here on the road I miss my home and miss my family,
but the band is great the pay’s alright, I hope they understand.
My life’s out here on the road and playing with the band.
Traveling throughout the land.
Another jazz club.
They start to all look the same now.
I find my piece of heaven in the music we play.
I pack my horn up, and I go back to my bus seat.
My home is this bus seat while I’m away.
The bus is heading to another town.
The band is praying that it won’t break down.
I’m trying hard to rest and get some sleep.
I’m just sitting in my bus seat.
On the bus to another city.
Happy that the band is busy.
Fifty states, I’ve seen them all,
Three or four times.
Sitting in this bus seat traveling through the country playing music is the only life for me.
Wouldn’t change a thing, and that I guarantee.
Life is good on the road traveling in my bus seat.
Pull in to town, grab some dinner then I’m waiting for the down beat.
Band is cooking!
Step up and take another chorus man the rhythm section’s swinging and the audience is digging it
and I don’t ever want this to end.
Yeah, can’t beat this feeling playing with this band just feeds my soul it’s everything I need.
Heard it said music will take away the dust of everyday life so I’ll take just one more and when the gig is over back into the bus and then we’ll do it all again in the next town.
On the road, is a life changing experience with the right band.
Seeing each town from my bus seat is the life for me.
Life on the road, with my good friends is great
I tell ya I’m loving every minute and I’m wishing that this tour would never end.
Can’t beat the memories and the music that we’re playing.
Now you know all ‘bout my life out on the road and you heard ‘bout my bus seat serenade.
We’ll play another hit and run,
Pack up all the gear and load it on the bus and then we go back to our bus seats.
Hitting the road.
Life’s playing the music I love!
